Logos Continued

The staff has picked its three favorites. These may change, and we may swap colors, and perhaps the wording on the top....but....

Fm Logo Candidate 3

An earlier classic - John likes the font. Not so sure about "Since 2005". But there's something to it...

Fm Logo Candidate 2

Jennifer likes this one visually best.

Bill and Chas like this one best.

What Andre Said

Indeed! From his post:

When Apple did this:

Oldlogo

They were not this:

Apple-New

I feel like however our logo turns out today, it's just some desires and wishes about what we'd like our creation to become tomorrow. If we're mindful of who we are, and who we become, our brand will reflect it. And our logo will most definitely change. It has to change.

More Logos

Well, you certainly responded. One thing I have learned (having done this a few times) is that no matter what, folks will not like what you do, and that's that. A logo, like a brand, gets filled up, to an extent, by the execution of the company. However, so that those of you who took the time to give us input can see some other stuff, here are two more. And we are working on more, and different color treatments.

And just so you know, yes, we are working with a designer....

Your thoughts welcomed and appreciated...

New Logo: Your Input Wanted....

Remember when I posted an early version of our logo and asked for input? You gave me loads, and now we have a new contender. Our team likes this one, and I'd love your take....here it is:

We have it in red as well, and black/white, etc. But how does it strike you?

Pump Audio: A Very FM Company

I've known Steve Ellis for a bit over a year now, and it's great to see his company, Pump Audio, get some notice in the press. His model is very similar to FM's in terms of getting authors paid. Check out the story in Wired News here.

What's It All About?

I do get this question a lot lately, and while we're still working on the tagline, so to speak, for FM, we do have a new "about page" that folks can peruse. We're very pleased to say that we've got a great set of authors who have agreed to work with us, including Merlin Mann, Glenn Fleishman, Matt Haughey, Om Malik, and many others. More are joining each week, so check this space for annoucements....

What's FM Up To?

Lots going on at FM these days, the platform is going in for its first fitting (in other words, we're doing the UI/UE/Design work),we're busy working with alpha advertisers and bloggers and actually selling and serving ads for a select group of folks, and we're still deep in the learning phase - talking to agencies, authors, and partners about the idea, and how to make it better.

We're also growing. I'm proud to announce that yesterday was Bill Brazell's first day. Bill was an intern at Wired when I was there, and he was the most outspoken, yet polite, intern I'd ever met. As I was leaving to start the Industry Standard, he presented me with a four page list of things he thought Wired could do better. I was thrilled when he joined the Standard, eventually heading up our New York news team, and now he joins as director of author services - basically, he's taking care of our authors, and finding great new ones (sort of like a record label's A&R guy). Bill's an author as well, and a great editor to boot. We're very happy he's joined the team.

Lastly, we're looking for office space. We're not into expensive, overdone space, but we do need up to 2000 sf in Sausalito or northern SF (Marina/Presidio....). If you have any ideas, email Jennifer at jcharette at fmpub dot net.

Meanwhile, if you want to read up on FM, here are two new articles - one in ClickZ, the other in IWantMedia.

Lenovo Finds Social-Network Marketing Sweet Spot

AdWeek profiles several brands that are using Facebook as a platform to amplify more traditional sponsorships, including Lenovo's work in Facebook to extend and reinforce its official sponsorship of the Summer Olympics. "Lenovo has created 100 athletes' blogs in an attempt to align itself with some less mainstream sports, such as field hockey and modern pentathlon. It gave the athletes laptops and video cameras to chronicle their preparation for the games. "'We wanted to do something that shows our tech prowess, not
