Well, you certainly responded. One thing I have learned (having done this a few times) is that no matter what, folks will not like what you do, and that's that. A logo, like a brand, gets filled up, to an extent, by the execution of the company. However, so that those of you who took the time to give us input can see some other stuff, here are two more. And we are working on more, and different color treatments.
And just so you know, yes, we are working with a designer....
Your thoughts welcomed and appreciated...

I think both of those are great, and much better than the earlier green version. I think the retro look is quite appropriate for the kind of endeavour you're embarking upon.

From the very first moment you announced "FEDERATED MEDIA" i have been envisioning a logo with the little waves/bolts shooting out from it, like the old school radio broadcast tower logos.
DEFINITELY the way to go...although I also loved the green. Bring the two together, and I think you've found your secret sauce.

Both of these are quite good. Like the other green version, they both have an old rust-belt feel to them. Something you'd see made out of tin and nailed to the side of a barn. I especially like the red one. Great typeface.

I don't think any of these convey enough of the federated notion, although they improve the readability. These are a little too bland for my taste. I want to see a "Don't Tread on Me" kind of look that's legible at small sizes, has a recognizable identity, and isn't just words in a cartouche. Lighting bolts aside. There's no feeling of Web, advertising, federation, or such.
A bunch of guys spraypainting a single anarchy symbol would be more appropriate, perhaps, to convey the notion of collective indepedence (anarcho-syndicalism).

I like the style of the second one. Don't be afraid to stick with more traditional type though. Brothers (right?) is nice but feels a little trendy. Personally I'd go back to all sans. Maybe something from H&FJ. Champion or even Gotham Condensed.
And, while I understand Glen's point, I don't mind the pure industrial feel of it at all. The world's got enough "web, advertising" logos.

Bold move making this process public. I totally agree with you that the a logo, like a brand, builds its own identity over time based on the execution of the company. Therefore, my advice is that you should go with your gut!! Listen to too many others and you'll be second guessing your every move. As long as you're asking though, i really like the red one. It says "we're gonna be around a while." Good luck making a decision.

Oooh... go with the old school b&w banner. Very "RKO Pictures" and I can see it on a T-shirt. I agree with Boyle that it's appropriate for your project.

John,
They're all kind of cutely retro, but is retro what you really want to convey here? It looks like a logo for some kind of street goods, like Old Navy or Phat Farm. Somehow there's a parallel in this retro thing with the OSM/Pajamas launch at the Rainbow Room: kind of an overcompensation to appear to be "real" and hip that's not really necessary if you're putting out the right stuff. Irony can carry you only so far: at some point you have to raise your flag and declare what you're really in it for. Let your true values shine through your logos and it will speak for itself.
